文字方塊: There were color belt and black belt workshops held separately by INO140 on 8th & 11th Oct and conducted by Master Chew Teck Soeng 7th Degree Black Belt and Mr. Dong Kok Wai 6th Degree Black Belt who came from Malaysia for this purpose. Dozens of serious students from different dojangs joined the workshops for advanced tuition in Taekwon-do. As a red belt sitting for a grading test, I was privileged to attend both.

The content of the workshops were comprehensive and practical. First of all, Master Chew and Mr. Dong demonstrated the correct execution of techniques from patterns and the correct stances according to the latest sport science. They then concisely explained the spirit and tenets of this martial art. The regulation and the etiquette for dojang practice and tournament were also discussed. Although some of the skills and concepts had already been taught by our INO President, Mr. Nelsun Cheah, the seminars brought me a deeper insight into this martial art as well as an improvement and refreshment in my knowledge, technique and attitude of Taekwon-do.

What impressed me most during the seminars was Master Chew who was exactly an example to us. He was a 68 years old elderly with cheerful smile and sunny disposition. He suffered from throat cancer 18 years ago. Struggling with the illness for many years, he was rather thin and his voice was so weak. However, with the strong will and loyalty to Taekwon-do, he has never given up his ideal and devoted himself to preserving the morality and image of the art. He also has strived to preserving and promoting the pure form of Taekwon-do as well as nurturing the new talent.

Having undergone a series of traumatic medical treatment, Master Chew had less strength than he had ever had before. However, he insisted demonstrating to the students in person at the workshops. His stance was very stable and the punches and kicks he performed were still forceful. When he tightened up my loosen belt gently with his own hands, I could sense his qualities from his firm gaze and thought that he was once at the peak of the art Taekwon-do.

Master Chew’s story is a great encouragement to me and to all serious students, and I now understand why he is highly respected and appreciated among the circle. I also realize that he is a real Master of Taekwon-do as his courage and confidence have not only sustained him against infirmity but also made a remarkable contribution towards the art.

文字方塊: International Instructors Course with Grand Master Choi Jung Hwa
Master Choi Jung Hwa and I arrived to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on March 9, 2005 after spending approximately twenty-four hours travelling by air. We were greeted at the airport by a delegation from INO 68 led by Master Chew Teck Seong and given a very warm reception.

Prior to the seminar which commenced on March 11, 2006, we were given an update on the activities of INO 68 in Malaysia and the surrounding region. As always, Master Chew Teck Seong and the Organizing Committee for this seminar did everything possible to make President Choi and I feel at home. MORE…….
